LEED is recognized globally to support developers in implementing management practices that prioritize building efficiency, reduce operating costs, increase asset value, and ensure occupant performance, comfort, health, and well-being.

Cost savings:

• Thanks to green design and technology, the operating costs of the plant will be significantly reduced. This will quickly offset the extra costs during the construction of the project as well as save in the long run.
• According to estimates, in Vietnam, if a factory is built following the “green” trend, the construction cost will increase by 5-10% compared to a conventional factory. However, during operation, a green factory will save 20-30% of energy consumption. Therefore, after only 4-5 years of operation, the savings can offset the initial investment capital.

• Businesses with LEED-certified workspaces have higher hiring and retention rates. Not only that, but employee productivity also increases. LEED creates an environment with clean air, sunlight, and no toxic chemicals in the finished paint.
• The design measures of a green building always focus on using natural light and ventilation to help users always feel comfortable and pleasant. According to Dailey’s research (2013), good indoor air quality can improve labor productivity by up to 18%, increase memory and stimulate brain creativity.

• Improving air quality in factories can reduce the risk of allergies, asthma, stress and depression while also leading to improved worker productivity.

Minimize environmental pollution:

• Green buildings take advantage of natural light, use non-toxic equipment, and ventilation systems to provide fresh air to help reduce CO2 concentrations in the air. Energy-efficient buildings help reduce environmental pollution as well as improve air quality outside large industrial zones, especially LEED is an effective tool in reducing emissions.
• In the Textile and Footwear industry, LEED certification can help leaders manage finances, reduce operating costs of textile and yarn factories, ensure the health of workers, and increase the position of businesses when implementing green buildings, contributing to greening the Textile and Footwear supply chain.

Emission reduction 

• In particular, LEED certification helps reduce emissions, which is really important in exporting manufacturing in general, textiles and footwear in particular. Because currently, Europe is a big market for Vietnamese businesses. However, Europe applies Carbon border tax to all goods from non-European countries, including Vietnam.
• This is a barrier in trade promotion for Vietnam’s economic sectors in general and the Textile and Garment industry in particular.
• Using LEED certification can reduce carbon emissions to the environment, reduce tax costs for businesses and contribute to breaking down textile trade barriers between Vietnam and Europe.
• Not only that, the US is the largest market for the Vietnamese Textile, Garment, Leather and Footwear Manufacturing industry. Achieving the US LEED certificate is a necessary condition to be able to maintain the export of Textile and Garment products to the US in the future.
